Julia made the move to Whangarei Heads after spending most of her life in Auckland. It was after this move and living in such inspirational surroundings that the inception of her painting practice began.
Julia has always played with colour in some shape or form. Using fabric, wool and paper to fulfill her creative needs.
Julia's works explore subjects that are close to her heart. Her mangrove paintings take you right to the heart of the matter of conservation in an aquatic world we often disregard. She shows the mangroves in a light where their dark mystery and their beauty on the ocean floor where nature recreates itself is a delight to behold.
Her doll paintings originate from the doll her father gave her when she was born. Looking at how we disregard these toys today and the effect they have on us.
Her most recent works are based childhood family portraits and explores the connection we have from from memories that we still carry within.
Julia's studio is open by appointment only.
